Most Kenya camps that mention yoga mean a mat rolled up in a tent corner and a request to the front desk. A smaller group has actually built wellness into the property: a permanent deck, a resident instructor, or a spa wing designed alongside the guest rooms rather than bolted on later. Touring Insights looked at four camps with that kind of dedicated setup, from Samburu to the Maasai Mara.
This is not the same as booking a fixed-date group retreat with a visiting instructor, which we cover separately for Enasoit Conservancy and the Mount Kenya foothills. These four camps offer yoga and wellness as part of the standing property, available most weeks of the year rather than on set departure dates.
What “Dedicated Yoga and Wellness Program” Actually Means
A dedicated program has three things a bolt-on offering usually lacks: a purpose-built space, a wellness team on payroll rather than freelance, and activities scheduled daily rather than on request. Look for a named deck or pavilion, a spa separate from the main lounge, and staff whose job title includes wellness or yoga, not just “available on request.”
The distinction matters for planning. A camp with a resident instructor can usually fit a session into your itinerary on short notice. One that only offers yoga through an outside operator needs that operator’s calendar to line up with your travel dates, which narrows your options considerably.
Sasaab, Samburu: A Spa Wing Built Into the Lodge

Sasaab sits above the Ewaso Nyiro River in the Westgate Community Conservancy, part of the Safari Collection portfolio. The lodge was designed with a purpose-built spa area, an outdoor gym with river views, and yoga mats placed in every room’s private veranda as standard, not an add-on. Guided nature walks and jogging sessions with Samburu warriors round out the fitness side.
Once a year the lodge runs a dedicated “Wellness and Wilderness” departure with a visiting instructor leading daily classes and guided meditation alongside the regular game drives, most recently scheduled for May 2026. Outside that week, guests can still request a private session with camp staff most days.
Sasaab’s Airstrip sits about a 10-minute drive from the lodge, the shortest transfer of any camp in this guide. Guests flying into the main Samburu or Kalama airstrips instead face a 40 to 60 minute road transfer. By road from Nairobi, expect roughly 350 km and 6 to 7 hours via Nanyuki and Isiolo.
Loisaba Conservancy, Laikipia: Sunrise Yoga on the Starbeds Platform

Loisaba is a 58,000-acre conservancy in northern Laikipia, best known for its Starbeds, tented rooms with a rolling platform that opens fully to the sky overnight. Morning yoga happens on an open deck above a valley floor that faces Mount Kenya, so sunrise sessions catch the mountain lighting up before the day’s game drive.
Loisaba does not run its own year-round instructor. Instead it partners with outside wellness operators for five to seven day immersive stays that mix daily practice, sound meditation and afternoon breathwork with the conservancy’s regular walking safaris and horseback rides. That makes Loisaba a hybrid: dedicated space and setting, but retreat-calendar timing for full programs.
Getting there means flying or driving to Nanyuki first, then a further 70 to 78 km, about 90 minutes by road, into the conservancy. Loisaba’s conservancy fee runs around $150 per person per night, layered on top of accommodation, which starts near $1,100 per night at the Kiboko Star Beds.
Segera Retreat, Laikipia: A Resident Instructor on a 50,000-Acre Conservancy

Segera sits on a private 50,000-acre conservancy roughly 40 km northeast of Nanyuki, run alongside the Zeitz Foundation’s conservation and contemporary art program. Unlike Sasaab and Loisaba, Segera keeps a named yoga instructor, Stoki, on staff, which means daily sessions are available to any guest during their stay rather than tied to a retreat calendar.
The wellness offering sits inside a broader slow-travel pitch: art tours through the Zeitzer Collection, conservation walks, and a spa, alongside the yoga sessions. It suits travelers who want wellness woven through a longer stay rather than a single scheduled activity block.
Road access from Nanyuki covers the 40 km in around 2 hours, since Laikipia’s ranch tracks run slower than tarmac distance suggests. Most guests instead fly directly to Segera’s own airstrip beside the lodge. Nightly rates run from roughly $1,200 to $2,000 per person, among the highest in this comparison.
Entumoto Safari Camp, Maasai Mara: A Dedicated Yoga Deck Inside a Conservancy

Entumoto is a small tented camp inside the 35,000-acre Mara Siana Conservancy, bordering the main Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The camp has a named, purpose-built Yoga Deck open to the plains, plus open-air massage as part of its spa offering. It is one of the few Mara-side properties with permanent yoga infrastructure rather than a mat pulled out on request.
Entumoto’s conservancy fee is seasonal: $100 per adult per night from January through June, rising to $200 per adult per night from July through December, with a flat $50 per child aged 3 to 17 year-round. Those fees sit outside room rates and apply to every guest regardless of yoga participation.
Keekorok Airstrip is the nearest airstrip, about 25 km away, roughly an hour by game vehicle over conservancy tracks. That makes Entumoto the most Mara-accessible option here for travelers already planning a Mara Triangle or Siana-area itinerary.
Kenya Yoga and Wellness Safari Camps Compared
| Camp | Region | Wellness feature | Conservancy fee (indicative) | Price from (pp/night, indicative) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sasaab | Samburu (Westgate Conservancy) | Purpose-built spa, outdoor gym, in-room yoga mats | Included in conservancy-inclusive rate | Contact operator for current rate |
| Loisaba Star Beds | Laikipia (Loisaba Conservancy) | Starbeds yoga deck, partner-led retreat weeks | approx. $150/night | approx. $1,100 |
| Segera Retreat | Laikipia (private 50,000-acre ranch) | Resident instructor, daily sessions | Included in rate | approx. $1,200-$2,000 |
| Entumoto Safari Camp | Maasai Mara (Siana Conservancy) | Dedicated open-air Yoga Deck | $100-$200 (seasonal) | Contact operator for current rate |
Confirm exact nightly rates and fee inclusions directly with each property, since safari pricing shifts by season and room category.
Getting There: Distances and Transfer Times
| Route | Distance | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Nairobi to Sasaab (Samburu) by road | approx. 350 km | approx. 6-7 hrs |
| Sasaab Airstrip to Sasaab lodge | approx. 5 km | approx. 10 min |
| Nanyuki to Loisaba Conservancy | approx. 70-78 km | approx. 1.5 hrs |
| Nanyuki to Segera Retreat by road | approx. 40 km | approx. 2 hrs (ranch tracks) |
| Keekorok Airstrip to Entumoto Safari Camp | approx. 25 km | approx. 1 hr by game vehicle |
Most guests fly at least one leg of these routes rather than driving the whole way, since Laikipia and Samburu’s ranch and conservancy tracks run slower than paved-road distances suggest.
Dedicated Camp Wellness vs a Fixed-Date Retreat Program
A camp with its own instructor, like Segera or Sasaab’s standing offering, fits around your travel dates. A fixed retreat, like the Enasoit and Mount Kenya foothills programs we cover in our separate cost breakdown, only runs on its published calendar and typically costs more per week because it bundles a traveling instructor and a smaller, fixed group size.
If your dates are flexible and you want a full week built entirely around wellness, a scheduled retreat usually delivers a more structured program. Travelers already planning a Kenya trip around fixed dates, who want yoga folded into a broader safari, tend to do better with resident wellness infrastructure, like the four camps above.
Explorer Notes
Camp staff who run these programs flag a few points worth knowing before you book. Sunrise sessions at Laikipia and Samburu properties start cold, often single-digit Celsius before the sun clears the horizon, so pack a layer even if the daytime forecast looks warm. Yoga mats are supplied at all four camps, but travel mats pack light if you have a preference for grip or thickness. Walking on conservancy land outside the yoga deck itself, at Loisaba and Entumoto in particular, requires a licensed guide, so a pre-dawn stroll before your session is not something to arrange informally. Finally, ask whether your chosen week overlaps with a visiting-instructor retreat, since resident-instructor camps sometimes swap their regular schedule for a private group booking.
FAQ
Which Kenya safari camp has a permanent yoga instructor? Segera Retreat in Laikipia keeps a named resident instructor on staff, so daily sessions are available most weeks rather than tied to a visiting retreat calendar.
Is yoga included in the room rate at these camps? Usually yes for daily sessions with resident or camp-based instruction, such as at Sasaab and Segera. Multi-day retreat programs run by outside operators, as at Loisaba, are typically a separate package.
Which camp is closest to an airstrip? Sasaab, with its own airstrip roughly a 10-minute drive from the lodge, offers the shortest transfer among the four camps here.
Do I need to book a wellness week in advance, or can I add yoga to a normal safari? At Sasaab, Segera and Entumoto, camp-based yoga can typically be added to a standard stay. Loisaba’s full wellness programs run on set retreat weeks and need advance booking.
Are conservancy fees separate from the room rate? Yes, in most cases. Entumoto and Loisaba both list conservancy fees per person per night on top of accommodation, and other Laikipia and Samburu conservancies generally follow the same structure.
